Room Correction Services

Overview

Acoustic Frontiers expert room correction setup services, either as a standalone service or as part of our end-to-end acoustic design process.

Room correction is not an alternative to acoustic treatment, since there are a number of acoustic distortions introduced by your room that room correction devices cannot solve. In our opinion room correction is best used to deal with room mode related issues below 100Hz and in this application is a very good alternative to bass traps. Approach

Our room correction process includes:

• Baseline set of frequency response and time decay acoustic measurements
• Analysis of room dimensions to determine room mode patterns
• Setting room correction filter frequency, gain and Q
• Re-measurement and iteration of the fitler sets to optimize the installation
• Documentation of the final filter parameters and before / after measurements

Some of the expert techniques we use are:

• Precisely matching fitler Q / BW to that of the room mode
• Ensuring filters are not placed in regions of high excess minimum phase

We have the capability to set up parametric EQ based room correction in any device that has control over frequency, gain and Q (quality) /  BW (bandwidth). This includes EQ built into some home theater receivers (Meridian, Pioneer Elite, Classe), external EQ boxes (QSC, Behringer, Velodyne) as well as music servers running software that allows for plugins (Pure Music, Amarra).

Room correction support is charged at the hourly rate of $125 - see our pricing policies for more details. Time required for dialing in room correction is typically 3-4 hours for a stereo system and 4-6 hours for a multi-seat home theater.
