The DEQX Jensen Transformer Balanced Output Board
This is an output board for the DEQX HDP-3 that allows you to output balanced analog audio to an amplifier or active speaker. Transformers offer galvanic isolation of earth noise that active balanced circuits cannot provide. The six Jensen output transformers used in this output board were chosen for their acoustic transparency and high attenuation of frequencies above about 50kHz, which significantly reduces the high frequency switching noise generated by all sigma-delta DACs (>1MHz). This additional high frequency attenuation is particularly advantageous when driving D-class amplifiers, which also generate out-of-band switching noise above about 300KHz that can interact with the DAC switching noise to create intermodulation distortion that feeds back into the audio spectrum.
