An easy to use, all in one box acoustic measurement package and winner of Stereophile Magazine's 2009 & 2010 Product of the Year award

XTZ Room Analyzer includes everything you need to perform acoustic measurements in a single package:

  • Measurement microphone
  • External USB computer soundcard
  • Acoustic measurement software
  • Cables

What's more when you buy the XTZ Room Analyzer from Acoustic Frontiers you get free post purchase email and phone support to help you get started with acoustic measurement, and answer all your ''how do I use it to...' questions.

Choosing between the Standard and Pro versions

Our advice is to choose the Standard version if you want to use XTZ Room Analyzer for:

And choose the Pro version if you want to do the above plus:

  • Room acoustic analysis - the software has capability to do high resolution 16-300Hz frequency response and low frequency decay spectogram measurements as well as full range 20Hz-20kHz frequency response and 2D/3D waterfalls to analyze reflections and check for flutter echo. You can compare the measurements taken with XTZ Room Analyzer to those in our acoustical measurements white paper.
  • Room correction - the software automatically generates correction filters for room modes which you can then further optimize using the unique parametric software emulation mode

A full list of software differences is shown in the 'Features' Tab. The hardware in the Pro version is improved over the Standard with a higher quality microphone (accurate to +/-1dB) and soundcard which make it much more suitable for full range acoustic measurements.

Software features by Standard and Pro versions

 Feature  Application  Std   Pro
16-300Hz high resolution frequency response Analysis of peaks and dips due to room modes and speaker boundary interference. Yes Yes
16-300Hz frequency response measurement overlays Allows overlay of multiple measurements on the 16-300Hz frequency response display 1 4
16-300Hz frequency response measurement smoothing options - 1/2, 1/3, 1/6 and 1/12 octave View your frequency response at different smoothing levels to see broad trends and specific issues No Yes
32 band Real Time audio Analyzer (RTA) Real time monitoring of frequency response whilst adjusting speaker/listener positions, EQ, subwoofer crossover or other system controls. Yes Yes
Full range 20Hz-20kHz frequency response Measurement of loudspeaker performance and identification of faulty drivers. Yes Yes
Full range 20Hz-20kHz 2D waterfall Identification of flutter echo and speaker / structural resonances; analysis of spectral balance of reflections Yes Yes
Full range 20Hz-20kHz 3D waterfall As above No Yes

16-300Hz 2D waterfall / cumulative spectral decay (CSD) / sonogram Analysis of modal resonances and how sound pressure level decays with time. No Yes
Automatic room mode identification and generation of compensating EQ Add the Q, center frequency and gain of the parametric filters identified to your EQ  for easy room correction Yes Yes
Unique parametric filter emulation / 'Stimulus EQ' mode Allows definition of upto 9 bands of parametric EQ filters in software, and then measures your system through those fitlers, enabling rapid filter prototyping No Yes
Post EQ frequency response display on 16-300Hz chart See the effects of EQ filters before you implement them Yes Yes
Post EQ spectogram See how EQ filters affect the low frequency modal decay No Yes
Tone generator - white noise, pink noise and sine waves Integrate subwoofers, understand room mode distribution and optimize  speaker position No Yes
SPL meter - A, B, Z (flat) weightings, peak hold, slow / fast averaging Calibrate your AVR / Pre-Pro and integrate subwoofers Yes Yes
Unique 'delay alignment' tool Identifies differences in propagation times speaker and subwoofer (or two other sound sources) enabling optimization of positioning and AVR delays Yes Yes

Runs on Windows only

A computer (PC) running Windows XP, Vista or 7 is required to operate the software package. It will also run on a Mac with Bootcamp or Fusion (not on OSX!). One USB port is required to connect up the measurement microphone and external soundcard. The software must be downloaded using the provided serial number found on the packaging from the XTZ support page. The software can be re-downloaded at anytime if needed.

[As posted on www.computeraudiophile.com] I just wanted to start a thread on this product because I think it's the best bang-for-the-buck piece of computer audio gear I have seen. I can't urge enough that those of you that don't have a real time analyzer or other room analyzer gear to consider getting something of the like. The XTZ II pro is super easy to use. I get very detailed results that are easily saved; not 1/3 octave results like the old school handheld analyzers. The pro also allows me to easily generate a huge variety of sine waves. Why does this gear/software matter?

I have been trying to find the best position in my new room for speaker placement. I tried for the last couple of months to do it by-ear. When I thought I had the best spot, I purchased the XTZ room analyzer and hired Nyal Mellor as well to give me a comprehensive room analysis. I discovered that the most dominant(12db) room mode was centered at 47hz. Of course, the bass sounded one-note-ish. Once I could easily see what this mode was doing, Nyal suggested that I try to find the null for 50hz in my room and place my speakers in said null. I easily generated a 50hz sine wave using the XTZ software and crawled around the left and right sides of my room looking for the null holding the XTZ microphone in my hand. Nyal predicted the null to be roughly 6 feet from the front wall. The XTZ showed me that it was about 5'1'' from the front wall. So, I placed my speakers in the null and re-measured. 47hz room mode gone! I am getting no room modes and a large and glorious sound stage before spending any money on room treatments or dsp solutions. The XTZ also measures RT60 and just about everything else needed. There are other software/hardware packages out there that are similar to XTZ. I am sure they are excellent, so I can't compare everything. I just wanted to give my thumbs up to XTZ.

Worked exactly as advertised. Easy to set up and easy to use. It was much more difficult to interpret the graphs than I originally thought. I am still struggling with that. It would be nice if they added an absolute phase tester and a simple tone generator plus other features. [This review refers to the original, now discontinued XTZ Room Analyzer. The XTZ II Pro includes a tone generator, SPL meter and other features not in the original version. What's more Acoustic Frontiers will help you understand the different measurements and provide guidance on how to interpret them - just call or email us after you purchase for support!]

Review:
I was hesitant in buying room analyzer II pro because I was not familiar on how to use software or reading results but found that Nyal has been very helpful in assisting with any questions you may have. After installing software it's just plug & play... That simple. Software is fairly easy to use.

The included microphone is a much improvement over my SPL meter (GALAXY CM-140).

Great product.

Review:
After trying two other room analysis programs unsuccessfully, I was ready to give up. When I read about XTZ, with its "room analyzer in a box" idea, I thought I'd give it a try. It actually works. In fact, it works beautifully! It would be great if there were a Mac version, but even I, a PC hater, was able to get it to work. This is a great product.
