Acoustic Consulting

Approach

Your room is the biggest determinant of sound quality. Our four step process is designed for those who want professional help in significantly improving their listening or movie watching experience. It is suitable for audio and home theater rooms, shared spaces or dedicated rooms with or without existing acoustic treatment installed.

We also offer consulting support for clients who want point support with subwoofer placement, subwoofer calibration, speaker placement or setting up room correction - see our Other Services page.

Nyal Mellor, owner and operator of Acoustic Frontiers, is passionate about audio and home theater acoustics and is one of only 40 people in the US to hold a Level II (the highest) certification from the Home Acoustics Alliance. Read more about Nyal, his philosophy and industry leadership on the About Us page

Acoustical Diagnosis

The design phase is about understanding the acoustical issues of your system by performing critical listening, a visual review of your room against a set of acoustic best practices and a set of in depth acoustical measurements. We offer onsite diagnosis for those located within the areas we cover and remote services for those further afield.

"I heartily recommend Acoustic Frontiers for anyone seeking to improve performance of their stereo or home theater sound system." Don Jackson, Corte Madera, CA.

Acoustic Treatment Design

This phase is the process of specifying the number, type and placement of acoustic treatment. We offer a hand-picked line of acoustic treatment from RPG, Primacoustic, RealTraps and Golterman & Sabo. Our capabilities also include custom designed bass traps and acoustic treatment built into the architectural or interior design of a room. Read more about the acoustic treatment design phase.

Installation

The improve phase is about implementing the equipment, acoustic treatment and structural changes necessary to solve your room's acoustical issues. More about the installation phase.

"Just wanted to let you know how pleased I am with the work you did. I am thoroughly enjoying the new perspective on my system and music. I appreciated your professionalism and dedication to getting things 'just right'." Tim, Daly City, CA.

System Calibration

System optimization is the process of methodically setting up your system so it meets our targets for high quality sound reproduction. The calibration phase includes using acoustic measurements and critical listening to dial in listener and speaker positions, integrate subwoofers and fine tune the placement of acoustic treatment in your room.
